Igesund backs Mkhabela to bounce back

Mkhabela was arrested after failing to produce his driver's licence following a police chase in Hartfield, Pretoria. The Mpumalanga-born midfielder appeared in court last week, but none of Matsatsantsa officials seem ready to comment about the outcome of Friday’s court appearance.

However, coach Gordon Igesund says Mkhabela is back at training and fighting for his place in SuperSport’s starting line-up.

"I received reports that he went to play in the game against Maritzburg United (in the MultiChoice Diski Challenge) at the weekend and was outstanding," Igesund said.

"It was important to send him there, and I heard he played the full 90 minutes. This is exciting because we need a player like him in the team.”

The former Bafana Bafana coach said the club will continue to support the disgraced midfielder.

"Obviously it’s a personal matter and doesn't involve SuperSport United,” Igesund said. “I believe it was just a misunderstanding because he is a good boy.

“I heard he didn’t have his drivers’ licence with him but I don’t know exactly what happened.

“However, it’s not like he was drinking and reckless driving or whatever. The club will continue to support him,” he said.
