SuperSport TV commentator William Shongwe has explained why he remains off the air despite testing negative for Covid-19 following self-isolation.

The former Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates goalkeeper tested positive for the deadly coronavirus disease on December 28 last year.

When he went for a second test on January 13 2020 he was found to be negative and is now currently on his way to get to full fitness.

"I'm still recovering from this sickness, the Covid," Shongwe tells KickOff.com.

"I learnt of my status on the 28th of December, but it's the recovery that I've been struggling with. I tested on the 13th and the results were negative, but hey there were some strange side-effects.

"I tested on 28 December, but 13 January I was cleared because I had received a treatment. But as I'm saying it's the other effects of Covid that kept me out.

"If you noticed, I haven't worked since January. But no, I'm picking up bit by bit. On the 13th of January I tested negative."
