Komphela taking the positives

Premiership

Baroka made light work of Chiefs in the shootout as goalkeeper Oscarine Masuluke saved three penalties, from Willard Katsande, William Twala and George Maluleka.

Komphela explained the positives he took from the tournament.

“We lost on penalties and there’s nothing you can do or say about it except that we could have won it in 90 minutes, there were a couple of times when we got into the box, we should have had more composure and hit the back of the net,” he told SuperSport.

“All in all it was a good exercise, all of them got enough time to put some kilos on the legs and it’s work in progress and we’ve got to continue in the same way.

“There were a couple of things we picked up based on how Baroka played that we have to take home and rectify or try to capitalise on. You learn from each game. The rotation between Parker and Maluleka gave us something and as soon as we went for something else there were some plusses we picked up and there are a lot of things we can go back on.

“In these pre-season games players get to understand one another and you also get some different understanding of combinations. You did not have Pule who was playing with George and Parker came in and offered something else.

“Macha as well, how does he respond when he’s under pressure, the nerve, the calmness, a lot of things you pick up but it’s not conclusive, we still have to go back and watch the match again.

“We are hopeful come the 23rd we’ll be ready for the new season. The only way to get better is through playing matches, the game is the best teacher and we’re looking forward to the next two matches ahead of the new season.”
