Soweto Derby officials face potential ban

Referee Masixole Bambiso and his assistants could face suspension following certain questionable decisions in Saturday's Soweto Derby.

The match officials might have to spend some time on the sidelines for their dubious decisions that saw Chiefs star Keagan Dolly denied might have been a Goal of the Season contender.

In the 54th minute, Bambiso and his team allowed Kwame Peprah's leveller to stand even though the Ghanaian appeared to be offside when the ball was crossed to him.

Kaizer Chiefs beat Orlando Pirates 2-1 to claim all three points in the Dstv Premiership fixture that took place at Orlando Stadium.

On 19 January 2021 Mamelodi Sundowns vs Bloemfontein Celtic match, referee Thokozani Mkhize and his assistant Andile Mncwango were suspended after they wrongfully disallowed a Sera Motebang's goal.

"The referee Thokozani Mkhize, and his second assistant referee, Andile Mncwango, were incorrect to disallow the goal scored by Sera Motebang in the 61st minute. Motebang was not in an offside position." A statement from the SAFA website read.

Mkhize had to sit four weeks not officiating in the PSL and in the GladAfrica Championship, while his assistant Mncwango was suspended for a period of 16 weeks.

Although it might be argued the Dolly incident did not have a direct impact on the result of the game, it did deny his team a clean sheet.

This publication tried to get the views of SAFA Head of Referees Mr Abdul Ebrahim on the matter, and though he refused to comment, he did confirm that the Review Committee will look into it.

"I cannot comment, because the Review Committee has not yet sat sir.

"I watched part of the game, I didn't watch the entire game, and so until I get a report in from everybody, I can't comment on anything.

"All matches get reviewed, not particularly tonight, remember the Review Committee sits twice a week.

"So I will find out from them when are we looking into this particular match, then yes we'll take it from there, but definitely we will be reviewing it."
