Stadium Management South Africa in partnership with Shell have this week launched a new pre-season friendly fixture between Amakhosi and The Brazilians, which will kick off in July.
With the petroleum giants venturing into football for the first time, Tshabalala has lauded the initiative and is confident of a successful and growing relationship between the parties involved.
“I think it’s exciting news for football in South Africa. It will be great for these two big teams to play in this game,” said Tshabalala.
“Well done to Shell for the partnership, they made the right decision. Football, I think, is a great market and I definitely foresee a great working relationship going forward.”
While many have slated the introduction of a new pre-season friendly, ‘Shabba’ believes this is an exciting fixture that is sure to attract the masses.
“On paper it’s friendlies but, in actual fact, it’s not. It’s important games, hence people still fill up the stadium during pre-season, because they want to watch good football,” he said.
“This is also one of those games for which I’m sure the stadium will be full, because both teams enjoy playing against one another.
“There’s now that rivalry [between Chiefs and Sundowns], and it’s always exciting when both teams meet each other.”
