Vila prepared to stay with Wits

Last season the 24-year-old had a scintillating campaign with the Students and was named PSL Footballer of the Season, PSL Players' Player of the Season and Nedbank Cup Player of the Tournament.

His performances attracted attention from European clubs and the goalscoring midfielder, who netted 13 times in 35 appearances, was invited for a week-long trial with Brondby.

“So far things have been quiet because of the World Cup in Brazil, but I’m still waiting for Brondby to get back to me,” Vilakazi tells

“They are the only the club I’ve been linked with that I’m aware of. Other reported interests are just rumours. But I hope that everything will be resolved in the next few days.”

Despite his impressive individual season, the player finished without a winner's medal as Wits lost to Orlando Pirates in the Nedbank Cup Final.

‘Vila’ says he would be happy to remain with the Students and help them challenge for honours should his move to Europe not happen.

“I’m happy at Wits and if the move to Europe doesn’t materialise, I will be happy to stay,” Vilakazi adds.

“We had a great season but unfortunately didn’t win a trophy at the end. And I’m sure that this season everyone will be motivated to go one step further and get that elusive trophy. And I won’t mind being part of that.”
