Kumalo out for six weeks

The 23-year-old, who is on loan from Mamelodi Sundowns, suffered a knee and ankle injury against Kaizer Chiefs in their league encounter, where The Team of Choice lost 1-0 at the FNB Stadium on 27 September.

According to the player, the ankle injury is not the problem, but it is the knee that sustained severe damage, which he has described as a “grade two” tear.

"I went for the operation on my knee and I will be out for six weeks," Kumalo tells Kickoff.com.

"It went well and they removed something in my knee, but it is not something serious, so I will be out for six weeks - confirmed by the doctors.

“I will start rehab on Monday, and I won't be doing anything [for that week], but once I have removed the stitches the following week, I will start to do other things.

"My ankle is fine. When doctors checked it they said there was nothing serious. The only problem was a knee which they cleaned and removed the other things that they put in there, so I'm fine now as I'm able to walk," he adds.

The Former Moroka Swallows player, who is one of three players on loan to United from Mamelodi Sundowns – alongside Ntuthuko Mabaso and Kwanda Mngonyama, said he is relieved that it will not be longer than he first anticipated.

"Yes, I'm relieved because it is not a serious injury. Others it takes them months to come out, but for me it is just six weeks.

“[My return] can even be before that, which will depend on how the injury heals," concludes the midfielder.
