Senzo suspect appears in court

A 25-year-old Johannesburg local, Zanokuhle Mbatha, appeared in Boksburg Magistrate's Court on charges of murder and robbery and is due back in court on November 11, reports Karyn Maughan of eNCA News.

"NPA confirms that Mbatha has asked for postponement so that he can apply for a LegalAid lawyer. Mbatha is believed to be the dreadlocked suspect in the murder," Maughan tweeted.

Boksburg Magistrate's Court senior prosecutor Henk Strydom also confirmed the news.

"I can confirm that a suspect has appeared this afternoon [at the Boksburg Magistrate's Court]," Strydom told Times LIVE.

The South African Police Service earlier on Friday denied that any arrests had been made.

“We categorically deny that any suspects in the Senzo Meyiwa murder case have been arrested,” said SAPS spokesman Neville Mailela.

SAPS are expected to release a statement on the arrest of the suspect.
