Chokoe aims for promotion

The Ga-Mphahlele-based side surprised all and sundry in their first season in the National First Division by fighting it out for promotion and eventually finishing fourth with 50 points, with ‘Bakgaga’ just missing out on the Promotion Play-Offs.

Baroka were expected to lose players such as captain Gift Motupa, who was linked with Mamelodi Sundowns and Frans Kutumela, who has in the past been linked with Orlando Pirates, AmaZulu and Chippa United.

However, Baroka have lost only goalkeeper Veli Motha to Chippa United and Chokoe tells he has the quality at his disposal to fight it out again for promotion.

“It is looking good for us ahead of the new [2014/15] season,” he says.

“We have convinced all our players to stay, except for Veli. The likes of Motupa and Kutumela are staying, and we are hoping for an improvement. We made 50 points last season and we are looking to better that.

“It is the same story with all the teams. All the teams are singing the same song that they want promotion and we are no exception,” Chokoe adds.
