George, who top-scored in the First Division with 20 goals for Royal Eagles last season, joined Ajax last month as a replacement for 35-year-old Paulse, who has since hung his boots up after a career spanning nearly two decades.
“That’s another challenge for me,” George tells KickOff.com. “I’m going very modestly into that position as I don’t want to be overconfident, and I’ll make sure that I try my best to fill his [Paulse's] boots.”
The 25-year-old attacker is expected to leave Cape Town soon to collect his NFD Golden Boot at the upcoming Absa Premiership awards at the Sandton Convention Centre in Johannesburg next Monday.
George, who enjoyed his first full training session with the club on Monday, says he is he eager to build on last season’s performance, after settling in nicely in the Mother City over the last four weeks.
“It’s a nice change and Ajax is a very organized team. The facilities are excellent and I know that I’m going to be a better player," he says.
“The guys have been very welcoming, as well as the coaches. I’m confident that big things are going to come for the team [next season]."
