The Real Madrid attacker, who missed his country's previous two games with a knee injury, played 65 minutes of the tie at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.

Paulo Bento's side cruised to victory via a brace from Hugo Almeida, an own goal from Richard Keogh, and late strikes from Vieririnha and Fabio Coentrao, while James McClean netted for the Irish. 

Portugal - unbeaten in eight games - will open their World Cup campaign against Germany in Brazil on Sunday.
