Retraction, apology to Orlando Pirates

Premiership apologises to Orlando Pirates and retracts a story we ran on Monday, 2 November pertaining to the club's current coaching situation.

In the story entitled 'Coaches lined up to assist Fadlu' we stated that the club was considering roping in an additional coach to assist Fadlu Davids while head coach Josef Zinnbauer is attending to a family emergency in Germany.

The source of the story, who is close to Pirates, indicated to us that the management of the club was concerned that amid Zinnbauer’s absence and uncertainty as to when he would return, they might look to bolster the coaching department to help the interim coach.

However, we did not verify this information with the club and therefore pulled the story off the site after fielding a complaint from Pirates.

We apologise to Orlando Pirates, the Buccaneers family and anybody else who was offended by the story.

The journalist who wrote the story as well as those involved in the editorial process that led to the story being published without the information being verified by the club have been addressed, and have committed to maintaining the required high standards that has established over many long years of serving the football-loving public.
