Bale wins Wales award

The 25-year-old eclipsed the mark set by Mark Hughes and John Hartson, who both won the award thrice.

"It’s been a fantastic year. I went to Madrid to win trophies and I’ve been lucky enough to do that," Bale told reporters.

Bale joined Real last year in a world-record €100 million deal from Tottenham. The winger went on to score 15 goals in 27 La Liga outings and helped Los Blancos win the Champions League, the Uefa Super Cup and the Copa del Rey.

Bale, who is set to do duty in the upcoming Euro 2016 qualifiers against Bosnia-Herzegovina and Cyprus, also won the fans' player of the year prize for 2014.
