Radebe was speaking at the official provincial funeral of the Bafana and Bucs captain at Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban on Saturday.
"The profile of KZN and Umlazi [Meyiwa's hometown] has been elevated by the exploits of Senzo Meyiwa. So thank you," Radebe is quoted as saying by Pirates.
"He fought the good fight, he finished the race, he kept the faith. It's fitting that he gets an official funeral.
"If he was a boxer, we'd say that he was punching above his weight. He carried the country with him."
Radebe made special mention of the 27-year-old's humility.
"Even in his popularity and fame, he never looked down on anyone, or thought he was bigger than anyone. He was humble."
Meyiwa was fatally shot in Vosloorus last Sunday, with the police since confirming the arrest and court appearance of a suspect.
