Officials have to be brave - Komphela

Golden Arrows coach Steve Komphela has challenged referees to be brave in big matches after their 1-1 draw against AmaZulu at Sugar Ray Xulu Stadium on Sunday.

Arrows were denied a penalty in the second half when Lerato Lamola was pushed in the box and Komphela felt there were several incidents, especially in the first half, where the referee could have made better decisions.

Komphela, who was not impressed during the game, had a piece of advice for referees during his post-match press conference.

"In a big match like this and at this stage of the season, officials have to be brave when it comes to decisions," he said.

About the overall match, the former Kaizer Chiefs mentor was not really impressed and thought the derby should have shown more fire than what was seen on the day.

"I thought for a derby it was not that entertaining, it should've proved more fire and again maybe if we saw brave officiating we would've had a better match," he added.

Arrows are currently fighting for a top-eight finish and the coach believes despite dropping two points, they still have a chance to achieve it.

"It's two points dropped but we can still do it, every match from now is a tough one. We just need to focus on the present, then we will see at the end of the season how far we finish," he concluded.
