Another substitute, Mxolisi Ntshingila, had put the home side ahead after 81 minutes in a match that took a long time to really liven up.
The clash began with very little goalmouth action in the opening minutes and it took until the 20th minute of the match for the first real save to be made when ex-Ajax player Thami Sangweni tested Anssi Jaakkola in goal.
In the 25th minute, Sangweni saw his free kick hit the bar and he also went wide with another goal attempt soon after.
Four minutes into the second half, Chippa striker Andile Mbenyane got a shot in on goal, but Anssi Jaakkola dived to make the save and then dealt with the resultant corner kick, once again stamping his authority in goal.
Ajax began to look threatening in front of goal close to the hour mark when Keagan Dolly got a shot in at goal, but it went just wide and moments later midfielder Travis Graham forced a save out of Fatau Dauda.
Then Mxolisi Ntshingila replaced Andile Mbenyane late in the game and within two minutes of being on the field he scored the opening goal with a really good strike.
But Ajax found the equaliser in the 90th minute through new signing Thabiso Nkoana who squeezed in his shot past Dauda.
