Polokwane City head coach Clinton Larsen has responded to reports linking the club with Bidvest Wits defender Zitha Macheke.
According to a very reliable source who is close to Macheke, the 26-year-old full-back is set to leave Wits to open a space for the newly signed Lorenzo Gordinho.
Macheke and Larsen enjoyed a great working relationship at Chippa United last season.
"Listen, we are trying whatever we can to strengthen the team so there's a possibility of anything happening right now, but I can't confirm that hey," Larsen tells KickOff.com.
"There's a strong possibility but like I said I cannot confirm anything, that you will have to get from management. We are trying two or three players, we are trying.
"We are looking to make sure we finish the last ten games strongly, and we are doing everything in our power. The chairman is being very supportive, doing everything in our power to try and get players we feel can come in and help stabilise the situation. ]
"So like I said, we'll try whatever we can."
Wits official Jonathan Schloss denied there is something happening despite reports in the media that Macheke has been transfer-listed.
"Ja no, it's not true... he is our player. The player is not even in the country," Schloss says.
Pressed further on whether the player is really staying with Wits and if there was no possibility of him leaving this season, his stance softened.
"Yes... he is [staying] at the moment, it appears. There is a possibility of anyone leaving this season. Everyone can leave if we get a good offer."
Rise and Shine chairman Johnny Mogaladi could not be reached for comment.
