OPINION: Platinum Stars are a joke…

Here is a local coach who started working for the club from the development ranks and was an assistant to Cavin Johnson when they finished second in the League last season.

ALSO READ: Freese remains as caretaker coach

Freese took over the club and in a few months transformed them into a force to be reckoned with by winning the MTN8, beating Orlando Pirates in the Final no less. The first trophy the club has won since 2006. And they reward him by keeping him there on a caretaker basis??

What more do Stars want to know about Freese before giving him a contract? When they gave him the caretaker position at the beginning of the season, was it because they were hoping to get another foreign coach?

Players like Vuyo Mere, Robert Ng’ambi, Benson Mhlongo and Sphelele Mthembu have all come to life under the guidance of Freese. Even the Chippa United reject Issa Sarr is all of a sudden proving that he is a decent player who has the potential of being one of the best in the PSL.

And while Freese is doing a great job in the dressing-room, the same Stars management that is failing to give him a contract cannot do their work off the field.

At the moment Dikwena attract around five fans, a few club employees and one dog on their home matches.

This is one thing that disappoints me with PSL clubs. They don’t hesitate to give lucrative contracts to these European plumbers who are masquerading as coaches, but when it comes to local coaches they get treated the same way as Freese.

Come on Platinum Stars, give Allan Freese what he deserves. Give this man a fulltime contract not as a favour, but because he deserves one.
