The Brazilians took a big step towards defending their Absa Premiership title as second-half goals from Percy Tau and Themba Zwane secured the points to take Sundowns second in the table, two points off the top with seven games to go.
And speaking after the game, Mosimane had plenty of praise for the Urban Warriors and admits only the experience of his players proved the difference in the end.
“A very, very, very difficult game… a very important win for us,” he told SuperSport TV after the game.
“We struggled a little bit, they did not respect us. They pushed us in the first-half but we had experience, especially when you [saw] how we scored the goals; they pushed a high line and we managed to get behind them.
“But I think [Hlompho] Kekana and Lucky [Mohomi] showed some leadership and experience. This game, we won it by experience. Not to say we were the better team, just experience [counted more].”
Mosimane seemed to find the right words to inspire Tau at half-time, and the coach insists he never stopped believing the playmaker would deliver the goods.
The coach continued: “You don’t give up on important players. He [Tau] is young, but he just needed that hand over his shoulder just to make him feel that he’s supported. And I told him that he must just relax, his goal will come, and the goal came for him.”
