Pauw backs Banyana response

Banyana yesterday went down 1-0 via Raissa Feudjio's 86th minute goal following an error from goalkeeper Roxanne Barker at the Independence Stadium in Windhoek.

Pauw, who tasted defeat for the first time in 11 matches with Banyana, said: "The game could have ended in a draw easily. Cameroon has a physically strong team but I think we matched them, they did not overpower us. We had a few chances that could have won us the game, but Cameroon were lucky. They had one chance from the mistake we made, but we had better chances."

Van Wyk added: "We are very disappointed about the result. We wanted to go out and get a good result by winning but this does not give us a reason to put our heads down. We have two games left and that will make us even stronger. We know that we have to win the next two games.

"I believe we have the team capacity to bounce back. We played very well, it was only one small mistake and they got the goal. We have a lot of experience to lift ourselves.

"We have two games to go, we have to lift our heads because we are not a team to give up. We still have two chances to make it through to the World Cup. We have to be strong and focus on our next step which is Ghana."

The competition is being used as a qualifying event for the 2015 Women's World Cup.
