Mayo: I can’t risk my boys’ future

Mayo, who was until recently serving as an assistant coach to Chippa United’s MultiChoice Diski Challenge team, was sacked by the Chilli Boys after his decision to take the boys to Matsatsantsa.
The Chilli Boys’ chairman Chippa Mpengesi was left fuming and slammed Mayo for not being loyal. However, Mayo senior insists he is satisfied with the decision that he took to secure the boys’ future at a stable club.
“I did what’s best for my kids,” he tells this website.
“I couldn’t risk their future and it is not like I was desperate for a job. I worked there [at Chippa] for one month, so it is not like I was there for four or five months. Life goes on,” Mayo continues.
Meanwhile, Mayo has confirmed that he’s yet to receive the boys’ clearances from Chippa United and as a result, he will get in touch with the club’s general manager Wanda Mbenguzana to get their papers.
“We must get the clearances from Chippa because the boys were registered to play in the MultiChoice Diski Challenge. Chippa asked for their tracksuits and that was returned. The boys are still in PE [Port Elizabeth] and they will move to SuperSport United when they are finished writing their exams,” he adds.
