Da Gama: Mission accomplished

The two sides could not be separated at Loftus Versfeld after playing to a goalless stalemate on Wednesday evening.

Da Gama believes it was mission accomplished for his side after restricting the home side to limited chances in front of goal, while he also praised Man of the Match Junior Sibande.

"I think he played 28 matches last season. He [Sibande] was the player who played the most matches last season in the NFD and we broke the record for the least goals conceded," Da Gama told SuperSport TV.

"To come back and hold a formidable team like Sundowns - the current PSL champions, to play the way we played today with the youngsters in the team, I’m just glad.

"Mission accomplished. [Sibusiso Vilakazi] 'Vila' couldn’t do anything. [Themba] Zwane, who is their most influential player, couldn’t do anything. If you study them carefully, you’ll see that Vila is their most influential player.

"Zwane couldn’t play. Vila couldn’t play. [Gaston] Sirino found it very tough. They created very few chances. What I’m proud of is the structure of the team.

"The way the boys organised themselves and from a tactical perspective, I thought we got it spot on."
