Pirates confirm deadline day signing

Orlando Pirates may have left it late but the club have confirmed their first new signing of the January window period on deadline day.

Pirates on Friday announced the arrival of exciting midfielder Nkanyiso Zungu on a three-year contract from Stellenbosch FC for an undisclosed fee.

The Buccaneers have had a relatively quiet mid-season transfer window, apart from the exits of Justice Chabalala and Tebogo Tlolane, who were sent on loan to Bloemfontein Celtic and Maritzburg United respectively, while Asavela Mbekile's contract was terminated.

Zungu now becomes the club's first arrival, joining Josef Zinnbauer's outfit as they look to forge ahead after moving up to fourth on the Absa Premiership log standings last weekend.

The 24-year-old South African made 17 appearances for Stellies this season, and could look to make his first appearance for his new club as soon as Saturday, when the Bucs take on Chippa United at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium at 18h00.

“I am happy to be here and I look forward to a successful stay at the club,” said Zungu on his club's official website.
