Jonevret's charges will host champions Mamelodi Sundowns on Sunday before facing Bloemfontein Celtic and Ajax Cape Town.

“In football you can’t be sure of anything. Maritzburg [United] won [on Monday] against Cape Town [City], so it looks like a little race between us and [Golden] Arrows and one more team,” says Jonevret.

“We have to win a few more games, we know that, but I can’t think too much about that. I have to focus on going out and play the best we can against Bidvest Wits. That’s my goal and then we have to see.

“And we have the last game against Arrows… away game… maybe that’s going to be a final of who is going to be [in the top eight].

“But as I said my focus right now is to try to play two good games [Wits and Sundowns] this week – so I can’t think too much about the table right now.”

Jonevret adds that they are working hard at training on ensuring the team stays focused whether they open the scoring early in a game or if they need to protect a lead with five minutes remaining.

“When we take the lead or when we are one-nil down, or when it's five minutes left of the game, you have to go back and do the things that you’ve trained on.

“But it is not so easy. It’s a lot of stress out there and the players forget about things, but we talk about it and we work on it every day because I just like to say to them, ‘back to basics’… and they’ll know what to do.

“And when we do that we are not conceding many goals. So, we are pretty difficult to beat at least… but this is a marathon we are somewhere in the beginning. But we work on it every day because critical phases has cost us a few points this season.”
