Concerns coming out of Zim on Billiat!

Zimbabwe interim coach will assess Khama Billiat's confidence before making a decision on the Kaizer Chiefs star's involvement in this month's 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

Billiat is set to miss the first of the Warriors' back-to-back World Cup qualifier clashes against Ghana this weekend through suspension but is in line to return for Monday's encounter at the National Sports Stadium in Harare.

However, interim coach Mapeza, who is standing in the place of recently-sacked Zdravko Logarusic, revealed that the 31-year-old will need to be assessed before a decision can be made on the starting XI for the second match.

"Khama Billiat, I worked with him before, I know his strengths and weaknesses so it was good for him to travel with the squad so that I can assess him," Mapeza said on The Couch h/t The Herald.

"I also need to know what is going on with him. You know, these footballers, sometimes you need to talk to them because if he is low on confidence, maybe he needs [a few] words to pick himself up.

"So, I will talk to him and then make a decision from there."

Billiat started in both of Zimbabwe's opening two qualifiers against South Africa and Ethiopia but picked up a suspension for this weekend's encounter after picking up a booking in each of the previous two ties.

Per local reports, he has nonetheless travelled with the squad to Ghana in order to "bond with his teammates and take part in the training sessions".
