Orlando Pirates fans will have to wait to see new signing Nkanyiso Zungu in action after it was confirmed that he will be watching from the stands for a while.

Pirates coach Josef Zinnbauer announced that Zungu will not be making his debut this weekend when they take on Bidvest Wits in the Nedbank Cup Last 32.

The 24-year-old joined The Buccaneers in a rather surprising move from Stellenbosch FC on transfer deadline last Friday, with Musa Nyatama having since made way.

However, the former AmaZulu attacker’s debut has been pushed back after Zinnbauer confirmed that he is currently nursing an injury that will keep him side-lined for some time.

“At the moment [Zungu] has an injury so we cannot work with him, but I’m happy. I’m happy for all good players that we get [in the transfer market],” said Zinnbauer.

The German further looked on the bright side as he believes the setback will allow Zungu sufficient time to be integrated into the squad and buy into his playing philosophy.

“It’s important that we bring him close to the squad quickly, and that he understands my system, but now we have time to work with him outside of the pitch, and I hope he comes back quickly to the pitch,” the coach added.
