Mere: Butler emphasises enjoyment

The former Botswana national team coach replaced Cavin Johnson at the helm and is coaching in the Absa Premiership - a league he once labelled "overrated" - for the first time.

"He [Butler] believes in pace, technical and tactical awareness," Mere tells "He wants his team to enjoy the game, that's his emphasis."

Mere says Saturday's Bokone Bophirima Maize Cup will play an important role in helping them to measure their progress so far.

"This [Maize Cup] is very important to us as we will gauge our progress compared to the other quality sides. We are preparing for it like it's a cup final because every game we compete in is that important."

The former Mamelodi Sundowns defender says they are very much aware that Saturday's opponents Free State Stars will play to impress their new coach Sammy Troughton.

"Don't forget we also have a new coach, so we are not worried about what happens at other camps. Our focus is to get used to our new coach's tactics and the way he wants things to be done," Mere concluded.

Platinum Stars and Free State Stars lock horns at 10 am at the James Motlatsi stadium.
