'Shabba must address senior players'

Premiership

Amakhosi have dropped to fourth place following a three-match winless streak in the Absa Premiership, with their latest league defeat coming at the hands of Jomo Cosmos.

However, Tovey believes if the senior contingent within the squad can step up to the plate then Amakhosi will come out of the tough situation they currently find themselves in.

"It's a tough situation. As the captain of the team, 'Shabba' needs to get the key players to perform, and then the other players will follow as well," says 'Mokoko'.

"He's got to go and talk to the senior players in the team. Bernard Parker needs to come back to his old self as well; he must step up to the plate."

Due to the current poor run of performances, many have started to question the decision to hand the experienced international the armband, but Tovey defends the 31-year-old.

"Just because the team isn't winning it doesn't mean he is a bad captain," he adds.

Asked whether Steve Komphela's troops still stand a chance of defending their league crown, the SAFA Technical Director was straight forward in denying this.

"No, they can't. They can't catch up to the number of points [of the leaders] in the little games that they have left."
