Ertugral: Ovono has nothing to prove

Premiership revealed on Thursday the Bucs had recalled Ovono to their side preparing for Saturday’s friendly Bokone Bophiriwa Maize Cup encounter against Platinum Stars.

The Equatorial Guinea shot-stopper did indeed feature in the match, producing an impressive performance with two saves from the spot as the Soweto side emerged 3-1 winners on penalties.

And Ertugral had nothing but praise for the 23-year-old.

“That’s why I brought him back,” the coach said. “He is great goalkeeper, we know that. [Jackson] Mabokgwane is also a good goalkeeper, so we have some good competition.”

The Turkish coach added that he feels Ovono has nothing to prove to South African football.

“Ovono is great and doesn’t have to prove himself in  South Africa,” he continued. “I don’t know what the problem was, I was not there.

“We know he is a great goalkeeper, and it’s a pleasure to have him.

“We brought him back and I think he is going to help us.”
