Currently sitting in 15th spot on the log, the Urban Warriors need maximum points against Amakhosi this weekend – anything less will see them fight it out against promotion hopefuls Black Leopards and Jomo Cosmos for a place in the top-flight next season.
Despite the enormity of the occasion, Ertugral insists his charges are calm as they know what they have to do to get the job done, while he himself is not getting carried away either.
“Football is unpredictable – anything can happen,” the Turk said. “But one thing is that we are prepared in every department, through the long balls, organisation forms … even if we have to play long balls, everything is organised, and you see the players are relaxed, as they know they just have to put it in now.
“Everyone knows their job, the pattern and the organisation part. The boys have been singing in the dressing room – there’s an easiness around, not a heaviness. From my side, you have to take your personal ego away – it’s all about the team and the players.”
Ajax have not beaten Chiefs at home in a league encounter since November 2013 – ironically when Ertugral was in charge in his previous stint at the club – with the experienced coach laughing at that statistic as he made a bold prediction ahead of Saturday’s showdown.
“After me they didn’t beat Chiefs at home? That’s why the chairman brought me in,” he laughed. “But I know we will beat them. If I don’t stand here and even pretend to believe, my players will feel it. But I really believe, in my soul and in my heart, that we will beat them.”
Kick-off at Cape Town Stadium on Saturday is set for 15h00.
