Despite completing pre-season with Aces and even playing five of their opening encounters of the campaign, the 27-year-old Zuke was sold to Bidvest Wits two days before the transfer window deadline. The deal also saw defender Siboniso Gumede join AmaZayoni from Wits.

“You know you lose a lot of players and these things happen in football,” Barker tells KickOff.com.

“But he’s very good, he’s infectious, he makes teams play around about him. He gets them going and a player like that, I would have never let him go.

“Fortunately he had a contract coming up in two months’ time and we had a chance of getting a couple of million rands and traded him, which we did. But unfortunately we lost one hell of a player.

“I think of all the players who had an influence in the game, I think that [Themba] Zwane, 'Section' [Thabo Qalinge] and Zuke were hell of a players to lose. And when you think that this team lost about nine players before the start of the season because of the loans and stuffs, I think they will bounce back nicely.”

Surprisingly Zuke, a product of Kaizer Chiefs' development, was promoted to Amakhosi's senior team as a striker back in 2008 alongside the likes of Wayne Matle and Simphiwe Mbambo, but he remains the only player amongst that group still playing in the PSL.

Zuke had a stint in Asia before signing for Aces in 2010 where he was converted to a midfielder.
