Striker Nomvete, 35, and midfielders Tsutsulupa and Mabalane (both 33) remain key performers for the Dube Birds, with Da Silva in awe of their work ethic.

"Although the average age of our squad has decreased considerably this year, we still have a few older players that we need to keep fit," Da Silva told Swallows' official website.

"It is a difficult balancing act because as one gets older, he will have to work harder to maintain his fitness levels. But at the same time, that extra work-load can cause injuries which are the worst thing that can happen to an older player.

"In our squad, we are blessed with senior players that are good professionals. Players like Nomvethe, Lefa and Mabalane look after themselves and their condition is proof of that.

"It would be easy for players of that calibre to start taking it easy and cutting corners. But the character of our players is different: they still set an example for the younger players to follow and their work ethic is second-to-none."
