Micho to consider Bucs reinforcements

Orlando Pirates coach Milutin Sredojevic will have lots to ponder on over the course of the off-season as he discussed the possibility of reinforcing his squad.

Pirates’ ended yet another season empty-handed despite a promising showing throughout the 2018/19 Absa Premiership campaign, as they surrendered the title to defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns by falling just two points short.

Upon reflection, many would feel The Bucs’ defence let them down, having managed just 10 cleans sheets – three fewer than their rivals – over the course of their 30 matches, and that reinforcements are therefore necessary.

Though refusing to comment hastily after the season’s end, Micho accepted that improvement needs to take place if they are to do better in his third season at the helm.

“I need to be sincere with you, the head is still hot. In this case, we need to sleep over it and go into the deepest possible analysis,” said Sredojevic.

“The fact that you have mentioned could be countered with the argument that we have the joint-best defence in the league – 24 [goals conceded], the same as Mamelodi Sundowns. So, with that in mind, this could be true or not.

“[But] we need to improve our standards for this league [title], and to put it straight – you need to score over 50 goals – we scored 44; we have the best goal difference of +20, we need to increase and have it much better,” he added.

“We need to reduce conceding of goals to less than 20 per season, and we need to keep the standard of not losing and even try to lose less than the three matches we lost this season.

“We need to improve in turning draws into wins, and this is [what needs to be done], but it’s easy for us to theoretically talk and whatever. I can assure you that Pirates is on firm steps towards the proud future of our team and club, and happiness of our supporters.”
