Fileccia sees positive signs with Zakri

Maritzburg last month recruited the Ivorian forward from Absa Premiership champions Mamelodi Sundowns.

Zakri, who had a productive spell on loan at Ajax Cape Town in 2017/18, penned a two-year contract with United, having failed to secure regular game-time at Sundowns since his arrival at Chloorkop in 2016.

Coach Fadlu Davids will hope to unleash Fileccia and Zakri in tandem after the FIFA international break once the latter has regained fitness following a spell of inactivity in Tshwane.

“So far the coach has played us together in training and the skills that we have are very complementary,” Fileccia told his club's website.

“He is very skillful, can score goals and dribble. For me it's almost the same thing. I can also play as a second striker or as a number 10.

“We speak French so that helps and complements our relationship on the field.”

Fileccia, who missed the first three games of the season with an ankle injury, made his return in his side's goalless draw with Kaizer Chiefs at Harry Gwala Stadium on August 18.

The former Free State Stars hitman is eager to build some momentum as he looks ahead to the Team of Choice's next clash with Bidvest Wits at the same venue on September 15.

“Yes, since the game against Kaizer Chiefs I feel really good. I'm looking forward to the game against Bidvest Wits and I think the process is going well,” Fileccia said.

He added: “For me it was a great feeling to be back because I had a small problem before the first game of the season against Golden Arrows and I worked really hard to get back.”

Fileccia is determined to better his return of nine goals in all competitions last term.

“Obviously at the beginning of each season you have to give yourself a target.

“I want to do better than what I achieved last year with the team. I want to score more goals and help the squad at the same time.”

Maritzburg are 15th on the log with a point from three games.
