Maritzburg sack Mandla Ncikazi

The Team of Choice are bottom of the Absa Premiership standings after picking up a point from their opening four League games, while they exited the MTN8 at the first hurdle.

Assistant coach Fadlu Davids has been appointed caretaker boss ahead of next week's clash with Free State Stars at Harry Gwala Stadium.

Stars were the first team to fire their manager in 2015/16, replacing Kinnah Phiri with Ernst Middendorp late last month.

United released a statement, which said: 'Maritzburg United Football Club and head coach Mandla Ncikazi have parted ways following the club’s poor start to the new season.

'Despite good performances that the team displayed in some games, points were not forthcoming and as a result, the club and the coach have decided to amicably go their separate ways.

'The coach has wished the club all the best for the season, whilst the club also wished Ncikazi well in his coaching career.

'Assistant coach Fadlu Davids will be in charge of the team until the club makes an announcement of a replacement in due course.'

Ncikazi was initially promoted to the hotseat following Steve Komphela's move to Kaizer Chiefs in July.
