Stellenbosch FC defender Robyn Johannes hailed the importance of his side's victory over Orlando Pirates on Saturday afternoon.
Johannes lead the Stellies defence as National First Division [GladAfrica Championship] champions secured a famous win courtesy of a first half strike by Iqraam Rayners at Cape Town Stadium.
"Difficult game, you know it's never easy playing against Pirates, they are a good footballing team, we had to bring our 'A' game. We defended well, great three points for the club," Johannes told SuperSport TV.
"We saw in the first game how many chances they created, they are a good football playing team, we had to defend well, we soaked up the pressure for most of the game. Three points, cleansheet that's what is important," he said.
Johannes added that the win over Bucs means a lot to the players who are playing for a side that is still new in the Absa Premiership.
"Big, I think we move above them on the log, still a long ways to go but not too bad for Stellies who are having their first season in the PSL, so we keep on going," he said.
