PSL gives Downs a hand in CAF advances

Mamelodi Sundowns' progression into the CAF Champions League knockout stages has caused further conflict in their Absa Premiership fixtures.

As earlier reported by, the PSL have since announced changes to Sundowns' schedule that will impact two of their remaining 12 league matches.

The Brazilians have had their fixture against Bloemfontein Celtic brought forward from April 8 - three days before they are scheduled to face Golden Arrows – to February 19.

This is understood to have come by request of the club, who felt they could accomodate another fixture prior to their Nedbank Cup Last 16 tie against ABC Mostepe League side Vaal University of Technology on February 22.

Another fixture that has been rescheduled is their away trip to Cape Town City which was due to take place on Sunday March 1, however, this is the same weekend that Downs will be in Cairo for their Champions League quarterfinal first-leg.

Furthermore, the League have sent their well wishes to the reigning Absa Premiership and Telkom Knockout champions, who are set to face Al Ahly in their next hurdle on the continent.

"The PSL wishes Mamelodi Sundowns the best of luck in the CAF Champions League [semi-]final as they continue to fly the South African flag high," read their statement.

Downs are effectively still in the run for a spectacular quadruple, having already secured the TKO while the Premiership, Champions League and Nedbank Cup all still remain within their reach for the 2019/20 season.
