Downs lose interest in Sangweni

Sundowns have reportedly pulled out of the race to sign the former Golden Arrows defender. Sangweni's contract with Pirates expired on Monday and he is yet to report for pre-season with the club.

According to a source close to the player, a move for the Bafana Bafana defender was deemed no longer necessary after Sundowns brought in Mario Booysen from Maritzburg United.

"Sundowns are now out of the picture. They have now opted to sign Mario Booysen from Maritburg United [instead of Sangweni]," the source tells KickOff.com.

"This has opened up a move for him to sign a new contract with Pirates," he adds.

Sangweni is yet to pen a new deal with Pirates despite club chairman Irvin Khoza first entering into negotiations with the player nearly two months ago.
