Silva tipped to shine for Downs

Silva is starting to find his feet at Sundowns and is causing problems for defenders, especially when he plays on the right flank because it gives him an opportunity to cut in and take shots at goal.

He’s got a sweet left foot and an ability to dribble past opponents, just as he did against AmaZulu on Sunday to score Sundowns’ second goal in a game which ended 3-3. Silva was also on the score sheet in Sundowns’ MTN8 second leg semi-final against Cape Town City, before the international break.

The big challenge for Silva when he joined Sundowns was to get back to full fitness because he had not played a lot of football before signing with the defending champions. Now that he is getting back to form and seems confident in possession, he will no doubt cause a lot of problems for the opposition.

“I’ve watched his games, even in the ones where he did not score. What Sundowns are bringing to the country is quality players. [Gaston] Sirino is another one of them and Silva has brought a different dimension to Sundowns,” Carelse says.

“He is a goalscorer, he can play, skilful, quick and powerful. He’s a very good signing for Sundowns. He looks the part and he looks hungry to succeed.”

His next victims could be Golden Arrows, the side Sundowns face at Princess Magogo Stadium tonight (19h30).
