Vilakazi struggled for consistency in his first season with the African champions, after joining them in a high profile deal from current Absa Premiership champions Bidvest Wits.
It did not help that, when Vilakazi joined Sundowns, the club were in the midst of their CAF Champions League campaign, so he and all of the new players were unable to have a proper pre-season.
A lot was expected of the man known as “Vila”, but a lack of consistent form and a ligament injury were key reasons for his underwhelming season.
“It’s always the case when you join a team that has done so well. I remember when I joined SuperSport United [in 2008] they had just won the league and it was difficult for me to understand how they play. It took me two weeks to understand,” Kekana tells KickOff.com.
“It’s a bit more difficult for him because he found us playing games almost every two days. [But] I am quite confident that when he is fit he can make a big contribution to the team.
“I am happy we have him in the team and I am confident he will adapt. We are hoping for the best in the coming season,” Kekana adds.
Vilakazi made 29 appearances in all competitions; including the Champions League, Super Cup and Fifa Club World Cup. He scored seven goals and finished the campaign with just two assists.
However, if Vilakazi is on top form, he’s got what it takes to inspire Sundowns to league success next season.
