Memela wants more of the same

Memela scored his third goal in two games on Saturday after early strikes from teammates Ntsikelelo Nyauza and Mpho Makola at Loftus Versfeld, as Bucs reversed the scoreline from the teams' first league meeting in Soweto in November.

Pirates, who started 2018 with a 3-1 defeat of Baroka, are now five points shy of the Brazilians following 17 matches apiece.

Milutin Sredojevic's men this weekend entertain 11th-placed Polokwane City, who have a game in hand.

“This was a good win for us,” Memela told his club's website. “We came into this match with a plan and I think we executed that plan fairly well. I would like to congratulate the whole team for this wonderful effort because this win couldn’t have been achieved without us working together as a team.

“On a personal level, I am happy to be on the score sheet again but more so that my contribution has assisted the team to record another important win. This was by no means an easy game - Sundowns were tough, they kept us on our toes for the whole match but like I said earlier fortunately we stuck to our game plan and got the desired result.”

Memela is naturally hopeful he can maintain his fine form.

“Look, all players want to play at their best at all times but it’s not always possible. I would like to continue scoring like I have in the last two matches but the most important thing for me right now is to see us winning games and moving up the log table. If we can continue doing this then I am happy… more so than scoring.”
