300 up for Tsutsulupa

In a League thin on consistent performers, reaching 300 games has become a huge achievement and Tsutsulupa becomes only the seventh player still active in the PSL to reach that mark.

The other six players still active in the PSL to have achieved this are Tinashe Nengomasha, Greg Etafia, Lucky Lekgwathi, Vuyo Mere, Calvin Marlin and Moeneeb Josephs.

Tsutsulupa made his PSL debut at Bloemfontein Celtic as a bald-headed teenager on August 30, 1999 against Santos before moving on to briefly play for Jomo Cosmos. From there he then joined the Birds in 2005.

“There was no pressure back then because I was just this youngster who was told by’ Bra Styles’ [the late Styles Phumo] to just go out there and enjoy myself,” he tells KickOff.com.

“Bra Styles told us that we are work in progress and to be now in line to reach 300 games is an achievement worthy of a celebration. I thank God for all this because I have seen talented players struggle to even reach just 100 games. I feel blessed about it.”

Since landing in the Birds’ Nest, Tsutsulupa has started 258 games and, added to the 41 matches he played for Celtic and Cosmos, tonight will make 300.

The veteran midfielder who turns 34 in February next year is now also in line to also reach 300 games at one club like Etafia (Swallows), Nengomasha (Kaizer Chiefs) and Lekgwathi (Orlando Pirates).
