Chiefs star offers hope to title rivals

Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Lebogang Manyama has issued a glimmer of hope to their Absa Premiership title rivals despite enjoying a 10-point lead at the summit.

Chiefs recently moved 10 points clear of reigning champions Mamelodi Sundowns at the top of the log standings, after claiming the scalps of arch-rivals Orlando Pirates in the weekend’s Soweto Derby.

Amakhosi are currently on an eight-game winning run – with six of those in the league – and certainly seem the team to beat this season, but Manyama insists it does not mean much as the title is only handed over in May.

“You can’t win a league that starts in August and ends in May and try to win it in November. You have to play every game as it comes,” defended Manyama.

“It’s about taking it one day at a time, one training session at a time and trying to improve from the previous game then you’ll be headed in the right direction as a team, and not an individual – most importantly.

“I think it’s helped us a lot that everybody has chipped in with their contributions, because I believe to win things it takes a squad and not only the 11 players who’ve played the most games.

“So, the results are starting show but there’s still a long way to go and the most important game is always the next one.”
