Usuthu set up KZN final with Maritzburg


AmaZulu 3-2 Golden Arrows

AmaZulu progressed to the final of the KwaZulu-Natal Premiers Cup on Sunday with an entertaining 3-2 victory over Golden Arrows at the Chatsworth Stadium.

Usuthu were on the back-foot on six minutes this after Matome Mathiane handed Arrows the lead with a smart header in the area, but on 24 minutes Tapelo Xoki put Usuthu back on level terms from the penalty spot.

New signing Tshepang Moremi went on to give AmaZulu the lead nine minutes later with a stern finish from a ball by Bonginkosi Ntuli.

Usuthu continued to dominate following the restart and grabbed a third goal within 58 minutes from Lehlohonolo Majoro, who capitalised on a cross from Moremi.

A comeback from Arrows seemed on the cards on 68 minutes after Nduduzo Sibiya converted from the penalty spot off a hand ball by Thembela Sikhakhane, as Keagan Buchanan got a straight red card along with Pule Mmodi from Arrows for an off-the-ball incident.

Maritzburg United 5-1 Royal AM

Maritzburg United brushed Royal AM aside with a thumping 5-1 victory in the second semi-final of the KwaZulu-Natal Premiers Cup.

Judas Moseamedi gave Maritzburg the ideal start on 18 minutes through a cool header from Lifa Hlongwane’s delivery before Ryan Rae made it two from a header as well a little later on.

Razeen Bennett put United on an even comfortable pedestal ahead of halftime with a cool finish on the half-volley and added a brace right after the break with a first-time finish from a corner-kick.

The GladAfrica Championship side were out of sight late in the contest after Asanda Buthelezi finished off a cutback from the right-hand side after arriving in the area.

Royal AM did get on the score-board in the last three minutes through a well-taken penalty by Tebogo Reed after Riyaaz Ismail committed a foul.

There was a red card handed out in the dying minutes to AM’s Kabelo Mahlasela for an off-the-ball incident, as Maritzburg lined up a final with AmaZulu.
