Motaung: Meyiwa contributed so much

Premiership

Meyiwa was gunned down last night in Vosloorus after visiting his girlfriend Kelly Khumalo. The South African Police have set up a task team in a bid to catch to the killers of the Orlando Pirates goalkeeper.

“It is a national tragedy because you know Senzo has contributed so much; not only to Orlando Pirates, you will remember when he went to the Champions League, he was outstanding in his performances,” Motaung said.

“We are just saddened by his departure because his career was just blossoming and he was in his prime of it.

“As goalkeeper of Bafana Bafana he took over from Itumeleng Khune and he lived up to the expectations. He also became captain, which actually said a lot about him.

“He was very patient for his time; as you know his comes from that class of Gift Leremi and he grew up at Pirates.

“That's why I compare him to Khune because Khune started at the age of 13 and he came to train in Johannesburg and he is what he is because of his patience and his will to succeed.”
