Tovey: A lot still expected from Kaizer

Motaung has received praise from wide and far as he celebrates his anniversary on October 16, having achieved remarkable success since the inception of his own football club.

‘Chincha Guluva’ left Orlando Pirates during his prime to build his own dynasty now known as Amakhosi, taking the local football scene by storm with a vast amount of success in the SA Soccer League.

Tovey later starred for the Soweto side during the 1990s, captaining the team for several years and leading them into the PSL era, before retiring in 1999.

Today, ‘Mokoko’ has honoured Motaung for the pioneer he is as he continues to lead one of the most successful clubs in the country’s history.

“People always say that a person gets wiser and wiser with each birthday, which would mean that we can still expect a lot of the man who founded Kaizer Chiefs,” Tovey told Chiefs' website.

“Kaizer built an empire, as that’s what the club is. It must be extremely pleasant for him to see how everything came together after the club was founded on 7 January 1970.

“Because when Kaizer Chiefs started, he probably never realised how big the club would become.

“Kaizer is a remarkable person and I wish that he will continue and continue to contribute to South African football. I wish him a healthy year, as that’s what is important in life.”
