Ekstein said they were expected a lot from the youngster who was tipped to replace Willard Katsande in future.

"It is sad to see someone like Meyiwa lose his career, through an accident which he didn't do on purpose" Ekstein said.

"We can blame the situation, but what I can say to him is "akwehlanga lungehlanga" [Zulu proverb for passing condolences]. Hopefully he will be okay.

"We miss him as a good guy, we saw a potential that he can replace Katsande in future. But let’s hope he will be okay when time goes on."

Amakhosi, meanwhile, have been drawn to play The Magic FC in the Nedbank Cup last 16. Ekstein said they will be ready to face yet another ABC Motsepe League side, after they needed extra time overome Tornado FC in the last 32.

"We are happy that we are going to play The Magic, even though we don't know which team we are going to play against. But we will be ready for it."
