Chiefs seven men down for FIFA break

Kaizer Chiefs have confirmed they will be without seven personnel during the current FIFA international break, as they prepare for their Telkom Knockout semi-final.

Chiefs come out of a tough three weeks during which they faced Cape Town City, Mamelodi Sundowns and Chippa United amid two Soweto Derbies against Orlando Pirates.

Amakhosi’s rise has since seen their personnel become sought after, with seven different figures from the club being called into national team duty.

Amongst the players, Erick Mathoho and Lebogang Manyama have both been called up to Bafana Bafana for their 2021 AFCON qualifiers against Ghana and Sudan this week, while reserve team coach Arthur Zwane and club video analyst Vaughan Coetzee is also part of Molefi Ntseki’s technical team setup.

Goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi’s recent exploits has earned him a recall to Gernot Rohr’s Nigeria squad, after he missed last month’s camp, and is set to face Benin Republic and Lesotho in their AFCON qualifiers.

Attacking duo Lazarous Kambole and Khama Billiat will also miss the early stages of their preparation to face Maritzburg United in the Telkom Knockout after being called up by Zambia and Zimbabwe respectively.

Chipolopolo take on Algeria away from home, while The Warriors host Botswana on Friday, before the two COSAFA rivals square off in Lusaka next Tuesday.

Amakhosi will host the Team of Choice at the Mbombela Stadium next Sunday at 15h00.
