Preparations for Wednesday evening’s game already begun prior to their cup clash on Sunday, when Middendorp travelled to Cape Town to watch The Citizens beat SuperSport United on Saturday night.

The German tactician has since shared what he witnessed as McCarthy’s side won 2-0 to stretch their unbeaten run to six games across all competitions.

“We definitely have to be at our best. I saw them in Cape Town on Saturday, and I had seen them before [as well],” said Middendorp.

“They have a very structured way about them, and I understand what they are capable of. They have a quick transition with equally quick players.”

Though City were without several key players such as Thabo Nodada‚ Siphelele Mthembu and Roland Putsche, who has since signed a new deal, Middendorp insists they will need to counteract their overall game-plan rather than focus on individuals.

“I don’t think it is so much about the individuals – that’s not as important. It is about their general approach – how they build-up‚ their movements and how they use the deeper hole in the midfield. For me it was important to see how they structure their game,” he explained.

“But let’s wait and see. We have to first see which of our players will be fresh enough to bring in after our cup game on Sunday.”
