Chiefs confirm losing ex-Wits hopefuls

Kaizer Chiefs have confirmed that players who had been training with the club with the view to signing contacts are set to depart.

Chiefs received bad news in the verdict of their appeal against FIFA's two-window transfer ban last week after the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) upheld the decision.

There had subsequently been some confusion over whether Chiefs could still sign free agents during the current season as soon as next year's transfer window closed in March 2021.

Amakhosi revealed to last week that their legal team had been seeking clarity regarding the situation, and the results are now in after the club confirmed they can only register new players again from July 2021.

As a result, free agents Sifiso Hlanti, Phatutshedzo Nange and Brandon Petersen will leave Naturena to seek immediate employment elsewhere.

Head coach Gavin Hunt mentioned during a press conference last week that the players training with the club may have to be loaned out, which led to speculation they had been offered contracts.

However, all talk of free agents waiting for Chiefs has been put to bed following the club's latest announcement.
